George Herbert served honorably in the WWII US Navy Armed Guard. George was well liked and highly respected by his shipmates and by his officers. George served aboard the USAT Borinquen. He was honorably discharged and became a fire warden. He lost his life in a fire in 1955 after sending his helper to safety.
