When I was a youngster I was dumped on my Grandmother every time Dad lost his
job. This happened often. She lived in a little town once known as the world's
largest Oil Field, Smackover, Arkansas. One of my young friends there was a boy
named Eddie Rouse. Eddie lost his life in 1944 at the Battle of the Bulge.
I later learned that Eddie married before he went overseas and had a daughter
he never saw. I was able to help his daughter learn more about Eddie and help
her obtain his personal effects, including his dog tags and the American Flag
used on his casket.
The article below has run in the Smackover Journal every Christmas since Eddie died.
