Ted Newstad

Ted Newstad, Friend and Hero

Ted Newstad served aboard the S.S. Lewis Luckenbach with me and was a very close friend of mine. In fact, when he met Josephine he insisted that I go on liberty with him and meet her. He told me he was in love with her and wanted my opinion. That was real easy because it was obvious to me that the two of them were very much in love and a perfect match for one another. I am sure he would have married her regardless of my opinion anyway. Ted was a great person. He was very talented, dedicated to his job and to the Navy and a moral person. I have often wished we could get more people like Ted into politics instead of the few we have now. A few years before Ted passed away he was looking for me and I was looking for him. We did not make contact but I did get in touch with his lovely wife and came to know her and their children. Josephine passed away in her sleep the morning of 1 March 2000, a victim of pancreatic cancer. God Bless you both, Ted and Josephine Newstad, I love both of you.
