Arctic Convoys Conference, July 2008, in Iceland

There will be an Arctic Convoys conference in Iceland in July 2008. Tentatively titled "Iceland - Cradle of the Arctic Convoys," the conference will be held in Reykjavík, with lectures at the University of Iceland, 9 - 13 July 2008. The Historical Institute at the University will sponsor the academic side of the conference and the President of Iceland, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, is the patron. The event will be a combination of academic presentations as well as events honoring the veterans of those convoys. Planning is underway for commemorations for the veterans, and the organizers are in discussions with embassies in Iceland about having ships from various navies come to Iceland for the events. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
