Arthur F. Denney

These reminders of Arthur F. Denney were furnished to me by his Sister Lavon Denney Bayless. Arthur Denney was born June 14, 1925 and passed away August 6, 1996. He lived in Creswell, Oregon. Arthur had his Navy basic training at Camp Farragut, Idaho, followed by gunnery training. He was at Treasure Island in California from 1 July 1943 to August 3, 1943. He served on the SS Cape Sandy from August 3, 1943 to January 31, 1944; the SS Hamakua from February 17, 1944 to September 2, 1944; the SS Humuula from September 2, 1944 to July 10, 1945; the SS Waialeale from July 10, 1945 to August 11, 1945 and the SS John Grier Hibben from August 18, 1945 to September 3, 1945. He served at Treasure Island from September 3, 1945 to February 19, 1946.

Arthur earned the American Theater Campaign Medal, The European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, The World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two battle stars. He took part in the Lae, New Guinea battle and another undetermined battle. Records for that period of time leave a lot to be desired.
